Just for an added bonus on today's installment of "I like pictures too...", I'm including an mp3 I had posted a while back, but the mystical forces of the copyright brigade silenced the post and it was never to be heard from again. To protect the innocent and free your souls, proper nouns have been omitted from this post. (minus the tags)
Pretty much everything I like about an upbeat psych rock song is present in this new single by one of my favorite newer bands, Midnight Juggernauts. Obviously they've been on the scene for quite a while now in terms of blog music shelf life, but the more important thing is that they're consistently putting out quality material that challenges that simple thought of pop music I've previously expressed disinterest in. Not only that, they're still doing it in their signature dark + spacey vein that is just epically perfect in my opinion.
Add to this the wonderful trippy-but-not-trippy-for-the-sake-of-being-trippy video for the song, and you have me watching/listening over and over again. Bravo, sirs. Bravo.
Today I bring you epic proportions of joy, mystery and all around excellence. Do you know about wolves? Sure, they're one of the cuddliest little death-bringers around these days. But what happens when you put one in a spacesuit? Do you know what happens then? Because it's a beautiful, wondrous thing.
How would you classify a Wolf in a Spacesuit? Would it be a science experiment? A social experiment in alienating classes and divulging wealth to people that shouldn't have it in the first place?
Nah, I'd just call it good music. This dude's friends with MGMT, Chairlift, Amazing Baby, Boy Crisis, etc etc. Basically a who's who of my favorite bands in Brooklyn at any given moment. But what does he have to offer? Is that all you care about? REALLY?
Ok, well he just released his debut EP on his own, and you should all download it because it's fantastic. But don't take my word for it, give it a listen. Here are a few of my favorite selections:
Download the entire EP here (alt link), or at his myspace or facebook fan page where he is constantly sending updated download links out. HINT: ours will be up forever. mwahahahaha.
The crush continues... I've been singing this song unbeknownst to the ghost of a girl that is off in another world all day.
You're just like the sunrise When I'm lookin' in your eyes And baby, you make me cry
When I'm lookin in your eyes It's just like the dark night And baby, you make me cry
I have finally found you I have finally found you I have finally found you
I would travel through the skies for you my love I'd kill with my hands for you
You're just like the sunrise (I'm lookin') in your eyes And baby, you make me crack
When I'm lookin' in your eyes It's just so right And baby, you make me cry Baby, you make me cry Oh baby, you make me cry Baby, you make me cry Baby, you make me cry Baby you make me cry Baby you make me--
So Sean has gone and fallen in love again. It's ok, because he knows it could never actually happen or work out. Anyway, Chairlift sound checked with this song last night and I was starkly reminded how much I love it. The video is pretty much an A+, too.
In case you guys didn't know, my band is opening for Chairlift this Saturday at Hailey's in Denton. I'm only, like, a little bit excited, you know, since "Does You Inspire You" was only one of my favorite albums of 2008 and stuff.
This video is demanding of your attention and I love it.
ANAVAN played Fallout Lounge last time they were here, and if you were there, it was probably the most intense and sweatiest good time you've had there in a looooong time. They don't mess around! Check out pics from last time here and here.
DAZZLER is a huge synth rock/new wave band that is basically the new incarnation of Totally Radd!!, and band I've absolutely loved for a few minutes/years now. They will blow your mind up with awesomeness. Trust!
Violens is a band with impeccable pop sensibility. But not the new-school "simple as can be with one good melody and maybe a decent hook somewhere" pop sensibility. No, I mean the old school "throw as many good things at you at once and hope you can catch some of them" school of thought. Being a boy with a major case of A.D.D., I tend to end up loving the latter way more than the former.
Mirror Mirror is basically what MGMT would sound like if they were less into Madonna and Led Zeppelin and more into the occult... which in my book is a very good thing.
So I've been desiring a personal online space to share things I enjoy with people who might or might not enjoy them as well for a long while, and this is the beginning of that said space. I'm a fan of space, and I hope you are, too.
First off I'd like to share this brand new video from a band that has become one of my favorite new groups, period. If you haven't heard of them, I hope you dig deeper, it's pretty satisfying when you think you're at the bottom and there ends up being more dirt beneath you.
